Why Should Media Care About Ramgen Revilla Case ?

Here is another media-hyped stories. A brother of a senator and a children of a lesser goddess seemed getting the posthumous fame thanks to media's circulation about his story and family affair. It is stupid to think that even his mother and grandmother would think that the culprits are innocents.
But what is very interesting about this case is not the case itself. It is how the media portrayed about the late Ramgen Revilla. His first name is even alien except that surname which has been a household name thanks to the patriarchs charmed films.

And may his soul rest in peace, but still one thing that captivates the audience about this case is the drama behind it. Everyone likes drama and while I was putting a post about selling your drama, I cannot help but say, this is a great example of how a drama would sell very much.

If you come to think about it, there are lots of factors that has been going on in this one. This is a family affair and that there are some newsworthy themes that needs to be covered than this one.

However, the important thing in media today is getting the drama. Everything in media is sensationalized and worst among them all, they are digging stories to hit you emotionally. This is the truth about media nowadays.

And I don't blame that. If you are an uninitiated, you would easily believe. You think that whatever media is feeding you are truth and that you want to consume those truthfulness.  To tell you, this is not media anymore that is telling the truth. This is a media that wants you to see things the way they created it.

On the other hand, you failed to be informed about the things that matters most like low wages, poor living condition, and some other social issues. There are lots of unknown cases that has the same bearing or the same gravity as that of Ramgen Revilla case, but, media should treat it just like how they treat those other hundreds or even thousands of cases in anonymity.

And while I pray for this young man's soul, I could not help myself thinking how this kind of a dysfunctional family works. At first, it is already a dysfunctional because they were born out of wedlock. This is the kind of drama the family will have if you are born out of wedlock. There are lots of insecurities, jealousies, and hatred among each other. Lack of emotional security is the main reason to this.

Although it has become very common to raise children out of wedlock, but I think it is still ideal to raise them in a family which is complete. Although it is not uncommon to see dysfunctional normal families, but, I believe those who still grow normal family could grow well with their emotions secure.

I am not blaming Revilla Sr. for his charms. But like his movies, those charms have their own misfortunes. And one of them is this...

Sell Your Drama

If there is one thing that will really excite people, that is how you portray your drama. I am reading a book about article writing and I come to this idea about "Selling Dramas".

There are two types of writing. Writing about fiction and writing about nonfiction. Of course we always know what the difference among the two is.

Now, for those who are not familiar. Nonfiction writing is all about exposing the facts. You can see a lot of them in the papers about news. All of what they contain are narration of what happened.

Aside from that, you can see a lot of nonfiction in some other forms like press release about certain studies, even weather forecasting is a fiction.

But one thing that best describes nonfiction is that it is bland. It is a tasteless piece of article, although it has a substance, it does not interest a lot.

There has been a revolution that is going on in writing. While we see the absence of any interest in nonfiction, fiction has full of drama and at the same time it gives a lot more concentration on emotion. It does more to emotion and appeal to it than the brains.

For this reason, writing has come across the mixing up of two genre of writing, that is a nonfiction containing fiction up to the point of "Selling the Drama."

Don't be surprised that a lot of articles you come across are full of melodramatic themes or even scary themes or touching themes. These articles are pointed directly towards the most sensitive part of ourselves, our emotions.

This is TOTALLY a great discovery that I have encountered. Never before did I write so convincingly and with passion and candor. By "Selling My Dramas", I can be put a lot of stuff but at the same time deliver it like how Cicero did to his Roman audience.

Well, I am starting to sound one. Anyway, it comes to no surprise why a lot of dramas in the Old Rome were important piece that it was even handed to different generations. And one thing that really fascinates me about drama, without it, there is nothing so interesting about our history.

Dramas abound everywhere. And wherever you go, there is always someone who will sell his drama to other people. The question is will you buy that Drama? - kristianiroy

The Power of Positive Thinking

The Power of Positive thinking has always been a mystery. I believe this is the very power that God wields when He created the world. Because He saw all things that He has created is Good. That itself is a manifestation of positive thinking. Every thing that comes from Him is good.

I believe positive thinking is a gift from God and that could make us do everything. Well, here are some of those positive things that I thought would be helpful especially when we are really down.

1. If you've got a lot of rooms for improvement, you are building a big house.

2. Losing is just a momentary building up to achieve winning. You just let your opponents see your weaker spots so that they cannot see your strong spots.

3. If you're broke, it does not mean you cannot spend. It just happen that your spending is put on temporary halt until you got your cash.

4. Don't think you're ugly. They just could not appreciate abstract paintings.

5. If you'e sad, then, that is an opportunity for you to be happy.

6. If you did not get the bonus pay, then, you might still be working for a bigger bonus. Sometimes, what comes later is bigger than what you've expected.

7. Now, most of us sees work as burden. On contrary, work is something that pays us. So, instead of thinking of work as burden, think of work as reaping gold in the midst of your workplace. In this way, you will see the golden opportunity in all of your endeavors.

8. Don't think you are alone. A lot of people are also experiencing the same kind of misery you currently have. On contrary, you have the advantage as you believe that you can end it faster than they could.

9. If you miss your bus, then, it is not your bus. You will always have your ride even if it means waiting for another day for that to arrive.

10. Hope is the best virtue. Without it, we don't expect good things in our life.

I hope you've learned a lot. Indeed, positive thinking is the most powerful tool in this universe. It is the very force that God created the universe.

Enjoy Life And Live Long

t might be an understatement if I would say that stress will give us shorter life. However, in truth, this is the reality. Exposing yourself to too much stress will give a shorter life to live.

We could not get rid of stress in our life. Let's face it. But, sometimes it is not the situation itself that is the stressor. It is usually our reaction that makes us feel stressful.

For those who are not so much familiar with the makeups of our brain, there is a part known as hypothalamus which is the source of all of our emotions. The hypothalamus is the very part in our brain which gives the reaction. Most of the time, this is what you can call as the "Drama King or Drama Queen".

The function of the hypothalamus is to make us fight or flight which is the basic coping mechanism if we are in danger. That is the reason we have these sort of reaction in case we are in a very stressful situation. Our brains could not function as the hypothalamus is excreting a lot of adrenaline so that we can either flight from the situation or fight it. This is the very reason why we could be so agressive in those kind of situations. Or the other reaction would be withdrawal. This means we are down and we do not want to do anything at all.

However, the truth about this is that if we continue to be in that stressful situation, our body will keep on pumping which is the purpose of adrenaline. As this goes on, we can liken our body to an overworked machine that will eventually be worn out in the long run.

It's not a surprise that cancer growth, no matter how mysterious they can be, can be attributed to stressful environment. The very reason for this is that while our body keeps on pumping, our cells keeps on dying. As the body tries to compensate for those cells, it also tries to modify its genetic makeup which means it will recreate a program in our DNA so that it will grow faster to cope with the dying cells in the body.

And what else can this do? A rapid growth of cells in the body turning it to a cancer.

Now, we have dissected the very cause of cancer. For sure, even a chemo therapy won't help as our body is already full of these abnormal cells which have been coded with this genetic program.

If we keep on worrying, then, we will keep our body expose to this stressor.

However, the good thing is we can control these stressors. As we can control our emotions which resides in the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is considered a low level brain. The higher levels are foundin our cerebrum which can create a great leverage in terms of control. Now, if you are letting yourself run by your emotion, then, you are letting your hypothalamus doing all those functioning in your body. In other words, you are a "low-brained" person. On the other hand, the cerebrum lets you realize these unwanted emotions. For this reason, you can shut up your hypothalamus and avoid those stressful thinkings.

By putting control in our emotions, we can live long and rid our body of the very thing that will destroy us.

Who is Dennis Ritchie?

Nobody cared about Dennis Ritchie, the creator C language which most of the operating systems are based.  Here is the man higher than Steve Jobs yet he was not able to get the same attention as Steve Jobs did.

Dennis Richie was the precursor of the "Digital Era". Photo credits : Stargazete.com
Software developers should miss the man. This is the man who made C possible and I know how C is important to all developers out there.

But did we have the same tribute as what most people do to Steve Jobs? Nope, we haven't known about this man. But those apps won't be possible had this man developed the language now known as C.

For those who are just consumers of applications, Dennis Ritchie made it possible for the Bill Gates in the world, Steve Jobs in the world, and even the Larry Pages in the world and Sergey Brins in the world to come out. Also, the Mark Zuckerbergs of the world also.

The Secret Of Making A Story

I was just wondering why some people like Spiderman. Others like the flamboyant Ironman. Still other love the chic and stylish Bruce Wayne. Whoever they are, there is one thing that is common to them, they can connect to the readers.

I stumble upon this blog about the secret of making Twilight.  There is no special about the story of Twilight opined the blogger. One thing that makes Twilight a hit, a perfect story for everyone else is that the author creates an "EMPTY CHARACTER" wherein everyone can step in as though she is that character.

Although I haven't read Twilight myself but that could be true. Instead, the character is just like everyone else, insecure and awkward.

In truth, the story is the same old Messianic story. Still, it is entertaining.

But what has made me impressed about this blog post is the perfect recipe for a hit. So here is how I was able to make a perfect recipe for a story.:

Ingredients:

1. Weak Character - ordinary guy or gal or the so-called victims
2. Strong Character - Macho man, Mr. Perfect, Mr. Beautiful
3. Villain - not necessary but just to spice up everything
4. Recycled love lines

1. Describe weak character.
2. Expose weak character to strong character.
3. Introduce strong character.
4. Develop romance between weak character and strong character
5. Introduce villain.
6. Develop conflict between villain and protagonist (Strong Character and Weak Character) but always make sure that upon developing conflicts, it will also develop into a strong love relationship. Remember, conflicts are not that complex but only to expose protagonist.
7. Insert recycled love lines to make it an immortal line. Add some freak statements like "heroin", "addiction", or any sort of this which will make it more "cool"!
8. Let strong character fight villain. However, ensure that villain should be dead after the story.
9. There are two consequence of the story, either Romeo and Juliet type or the fairytale happily ever after. If you will ask my opinion, Romeo and Juliet will have a tragic end in your story. Make it "Happily Everafter" and the people will be fantasizing it to eternity.

And that is how a story is created.. Hope you enjoy reading it and have fun. -kristian iroy-

One Sultry Afternoon with Spanish Music

While surfing the web for something, i stumbled upon potpourris of Spanish songs which include Volare, Enrique Iglesia's Heroe, Chayenne's Yo Te Amo and of course the immortal Besa Me with the version of Andrea Bocelli.

Of course, intiendo poco. Yo estudio espaƱol en colegio. Yo gusta hablar en espaƱol.

OK.. sort of just trying to prove that my Spanish is still intact and I can still speak the language.

So what does this mean? having some break in the sultry Sunday afternoon, I was imagining Ibiza. That famed Spanish resort. With all the sand and watching my wife wadding of its sunny beach.

Oh.. how romantic it would be!

Anyway, there are just some things you must do before overdoing my imagination. I mean I am here in the Philippines and I have no way to get there in Ibiza.

The Hippy and Death Lesson from Steve Jobs

The Hippy and Death Lesson from Steve Jobs

Life is short and we need to do something. This was the message that Steve Jobs wants to propagate. Jobs has never been a good man. He was even labeled as a slave driver. He fired a lot of people and some people might be happy that he would not be lording anymore in the most innovative company called Apple.

Yet, there is something that we have to learn from the hippy life of Steve Jobs. He went through life which is not so much easy. But, he put passion on it. He put passion on something that most people would not have imagined it is possible. That passion was put into something we have enjoyed in every tablets we have. That passion lets us listen music without the bulky CD and let us buy songs directly without having to buy the whole album which is almost always been full of junk.

And there is more to this. Steve has passion to his fellow developers. Few people might have not known this but the Apple Developer Kit is ready for download and it is for free. Even I-phone development is for free. You can create your own application if you just know how. With Microsoft, you have to pay for this. Of course, Windows is seating in most of the computers. But who could imagine that a free iOS development Kit can be downloaded thanks to the passion that Steve shared.

Steve is a Buddhist but that does not mean that a Christian like me should not admire him. But, the wonders of his works has surpassed every ingenuity. Without Steve, we might not have personal computers. Without Steve, Xerox might have hide this technology called "Mouse" in the confines of their laboratory. Without Steve, we might have not got good animation features. And without Steve, we might not have got a very good phone which has changed a lot in the way how we do our lives.

There is one thing that we could learn from Steve and that is if we can do something different, believe on it, we can change the world. However, we must start it from simply connecting the dots of wherever we are right now. We must find something in our endeavor that might change a lot. And for me, this is a challenge to me and to all of us who are still living in the world.

We might be doing our usual routine task, but, there might be something that we can discover that could have an impact to the rest of the world. Believe on it and have passion on it. Make that cause be known and you can be like Jobs. Remember, life is so short to live and the clock is ticking. -kristian iroy-

Troubled Mind, Expectations and all those things that Bothered Me

Sometimes in your life you will be in a moment that you are almost at the downside of it. This is life. I really have to overcome the downside of it. I may not be doing the things that I have done but who cares... I did not live in this life to set someone's expectation...

I have my own life to live... I have my own successes I had my own defeats. And there is no one to share the feeling but me alone...

Now I have to recompose myself and work for my own successes. Success which I defined on my on terms and not on others term. Success which I defined my life to be with...

I don't think the world knows success... i think the world knows success on terms of what others are thinking.

But I really have to think again. It is not the strongest that has survived in the world. Nor the weakest. But those who learn to cope with the environment. The dinosaurs are the strongest yet they became instinct. Evolutionary men may not be the strongest nor the weakest but they survived evolution because of the capability to adjust to environment.

Expectations ? Well, these are just the make believes. Surely it is unreachable. And when you are there, there is always a force that will let you get down.

Just never live by expectations and work your way for survival. In this way, people won't see you as a threat but as someone who will really be friendly at all.

Intellectial Elitism!!

The first statement was a bunch of elitis statement. That outside of UP Diliman is a jungle, a barbaric academe. This is one of the most notorious acclaimation by a professor. An insensitive remarks.

Does that mean that if you came from UP Diliman you are the "Cream of the Crop"? Would that say that of all the UP System in the Philippines, Diliman is the best? Just that mean that you must be from Diliman and the rest are nothing but a mere copycats or in the Platonic caves, Diliman is the abode of the truth? Certainly, this remarks proves to be an insensitive from a highly respected academic person.

I put into context the lecture of Prof. Monsod. This is not meant to have a pejorative stance on other universities and instition of learning. Prof. Monsod is trying to make her class feeling proud that they were enrolled in that Econ class. She just want her class to be remembered as something which is really special. In other words, she wants to make a very great impact on her students attending to that class.

Well, Prof Monsod tries to impart honor and excellence as the University's motto. I do agree that some University Professors did not do their job well by inculcating those motto and virtues in every UP Student's soul. That makes him special to others who have sinned of omission.

This is good for Prof. Monsod. But the truth is that Honor and Excellence cannot be learned in UP Alone nor in UP Diliman alone. It can be learned in any setting. In can be learned in the remotest barangay in Jolo, Solo or in Aparri. It is not named Honor and Excellence, but in the sense that it can be universally learned doesn't mean that only the class of Prof. Monsod and particularly those who are from UP Diliman can learn this virtue.

And in the middle of the line, the whole matter was subjected to cheating. Was this a tirade from the previous administration? Is this a political tirade? Is Prof. Monsod trying to imply something? Well, I believe in honor and excellence but telling about cheating has something to root on the first statement of Prof. Monsod, intellectual elitism.

Yes, and she says that "once you cheat, you are no longer part of the solution, but instead part of the problem". What is making sense here is that you will be a problem when you are cheating. Is that the only reason why you cheat? Is there another reason why you cheat? Is cheating the only problem? Would there be any reason why a student cheat when cheating itself is not the main problem but the another effect of the problem?

Then, there is this mantra called "Yes I can". It is more of a leftist jargon! I am not so much critical with this but to think that something bothers me when Prof. Monsod started her speech is that word, Best, cream of the crop, and the leaders.

Well, technically, I have a different mindset with what it would imply to his students. Instead of we are breeding an honest to goodness leaders, we are breeding elitist. If you do not belong to the class, you are not good. And there are those superficial statements like you've got to help this country and that those who are around should be responsible in transforming the country into a developed country.

There is nothing new in the this statements of Prof. Monsod. These are just superficial statements being spoken by a respected person in the academe and thus earned a worthwhile respect to those who would are outside of the circle.

And to tell you Ms. Monsod, the real problem of this country is not cheating. it is elitism. This elitism proves to be too evil. Majority of our wealth are being controlled by a few elite. And the key to the development of the country has been kept by the elite.

When you are speaking about cheating, you are not taking into considerations that some students are cheating at your class because you are setting an elitist expectations of having them passing your class. I mean, this is not only the case of cheating in the class. This is also the case of those who are outside the field of academe. The root of cheating is the elitist mentality.Whether it be a corporate elitism wherein only a few people would be sharing for the profit. Or the societal elitism that has the root cause of material wanting of something which is not supposed to be a need. Or the wanting of those artificial wants like power and money.

I believe that the root of evil that should have been addressed her, Prof. Monsod, is not cheating per se, but "Fear". And fear caused elitism. Elitism is an assurance that you are in the company of the best and that you should not fear. Fear is the greatest evil that corrupts your mind. Many people fear because it is fear itself of the things that forces you to cheat.

Prof. Monsod, you should have told your students that fear is the root cause of wanting the unwanted. Because of fear of what will happen to them after they lost their bid, politicians cheat so they can gain and when they can gain, they cheat and the cycle of cheating turns into a living vicious hell.

It is the fear of economic deprivation that forces a lot of people to go abroad. It is the fear of the majority to make a change in their lives so as to get back out of the living hell. Prof. Monsod, you are teaching economics only to find out that you are not highlighting the very basic need of mean, and that is to get rid of the instinctual fear which translates to the higher fears in life. it could be a fear of being labeled as weak, or some sort of deragatory weakness.

The Good Thing About Life

I woke up early in the morning. I can still feel the freshness of the morning. It was still dawn and sunlight was still about to break. The Sky is still was still dark and the crescent moon was still visible. It was really a great day to start. The morning mist was still on the air and I could still smell the freshness of the morning dew.

There Is More To Life Than Cubicles and Computers

Was there any time that I have enjoyed the sun? Was there any time that I enjoyed the sound of the traffic jam? Was there any time that I could feel the polluted breeze contaminated with radical? Was there any time that I could hear my breathing and count them during my regular stair climb?

Yesterday was lot of problems but I just smiled them. At least, I still have a reason to live for another day. I can sense boredom to my daily work. I feel a very ultimate hate of what i always do. I started to blame it that it is the reason why I haven't pursue my dream. But eventually, the more I hate it, the more I love to cling to it. The more I want to get rid to it, the more I see the reason that I have to stay.

They say that these past days, temperatures are rising. But, I do not see it as a problem. I even like it. These past days, i could feel the sun which is some million miles away from the earth. At least in our lifetime, we could feel it. We will never have its company when we will die.

I see myself complaining about my mundane life. I observed peoples are like zombies in the jeepneys without even having an idea on their destinations. I could see the looks of an exhausted call center agents from a very grueling night of the phone calls they did not want. I can feel the frustration of some people whose work is integral in a system but they were not being credited to it. They were not even paid the amount they are due.

I can feel the discontent of every people. The life they do not want but live it for the sake of normalcy. What is normalcy then? A state of denying what we wanted. It is a state of chronic masochism.

It was funny because every time you do not play the masochist part, people will contempt you. Every time you do what is not normal, you will be disowned by the flock. I do not see anything wrong with it. There is nothing to be fear. And yes fear. Our society teaches us to be fear. We are given rules of don'ts instead of do. We are told that life outside the cubicles or the city, is a miserable one. We are told to shut off our critical minds and follow what the public opinion shaped. We are told to behave in civility.

Sigmund Freud said that there are lots of discontents in our civilization. The more we advance, the more we will become disoriented with ourselves. The more we live life of a masochist, the more we alienate ourselves.

We deserve more than pains and momentary relief. We deserve to be passionate in our life. I think what makes us human is we live life. We are conscious of everything that is around us.

In Ecclesiastes, it says that there is always a time for everything. There is a time to weep, a time to pray, a time to laugh, and a time to cry. That is true. And I want to live every single aspect of life
